DEAN AUSTIN - MUSICAL DIRECTOR

CURRENTLY MD FOR WORLD PREMIERE OF DUSTY AT CHARING CROSS THEATRE, previews from 25 May.

Dean Austin trained at the University of Hull.

Musical Director credits in London include: European Premiere of Dessa Rose (Trafalgar Studios, Nominated for Best Musical Direction in Broadway World Awards, 'Ushers', Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, The Mikado (all at Charing Cross Theatre), London Premiere of ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ (Union Theatre); World Premiere of ‘Zorro’ (Garrick Theatre); London premiere of ’Stand Tall’ (Landor Theatre); ‘Side by Side by Sondheim’ (The Venue); the UK premiere of ‘The Musical of Musicals - The Musical!’ (Sound Theatre); ‘Taboo’ (The Venue); ‘Walk with the Angels’ (ICA Soho Theatre); ‘Newsrevue’ (Canal Cafe Theatre) and ‘Peter Pan’ with Henry Winkler and ‘Cinderella’ with Richard Wilson & John Barrowman (New Theatre, Wimbledon).

Dean has also played keyboards on ‘Billy Elliot’ and ‘Fame’ (Victoria Palace); ‘Far Pavilions’ (Shaftesbury); ‘All You Need is Love’ (Queens); ‘Let us Fly’ and ‘Pageant’ (King’s Head).

Regional theatre work includes ‘Dick Whittington’ (Aylesbury Waterside Theatre); UK premiere of ‘Debbie Does Dallas’ (Edinburgh Festival & Oxford Fire Station); ‘Piaf’, ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’ and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ (Theatre Royal, York); ‘Blues in the Night’ (Birmingham Rep); ‘Side by Side by Sondheim’, ‘Mother Goose’, ‘Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood’ and ‘Aladdin’ (Salisbury Playhouse); ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum ‘ and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ (Everyman Festival, Cardiff).

His touring work includes the first national tour of ‘Spamalot’; premiere and tour of ‘Tracy Beaker Gets Real’; ‘Grease’ (Scandinavian tour); ‘Taboo’ (first national tour); the UK premiere of ‘Yee-haw!!’ (Churchill Theatre, Bromley and Palace Theatre, Westcliff); ‘La Cage Aux Folles’ (Frankfurt); ‘When Movies Were Movies’, ‘On Broadway’ and two German tours of ‘Youkali - the Songs of Kurt Weill’.

Dean has worked with ‘Four Poofs and a Piano’ on ‘Friday Night with Jonathan Ross’, has appeared on ‘An Audience with Joan Rivers’ for ITV, and was Associate Musical Director on ‘Celebrate the Sound of Music’ for the BBC.

The 2017 National Indigenous Music Awards blew an appreciative Darwin audience away at the iconic Amphitheatre under the stars tonight as Troy Cassar-Daley, A.B. Original and Electric Fields all took home major awards, showing the breadth across genres of Australian Indigenous talent. Opening with an amazing set from triple j Unearthed winner Baker Boy and closing with a touching tribute to Dr G. Yunupingu and surprise performance from Saltwater Band. It was a night of elation and emotion as generations of Indigenous musicians and their place in Australian culture were celebrated and acknowledged.
