Southern Rep to Offer Five 2013 Musical Theatre Summer Camps

This summer, Southern Rep will be offering FIVE exciting MUSICAL THEATRE SUMMER CAMPS for kids of all ages, including DISNEY'S CINDERELLA, KIDS at Carrollton United Methodist Church, and GUYS & DOLLS, JR, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, JR, and PIRATES OF PENZANCE, JR at the Lower Depths Theatre at Loyola University.

Southern Rep Summer Camps guarantee: A great location, great education, and GREAT FUN for the summer. At Southern Rep, every child who participates in the workshop is automatically cast in the play. That way, everyone in the class gets to learn about auditions, acting technique, musicality, and dance, and can immediately apply that knowledge to their performance.

Again this summer, Southern Rep is doing these camps UPTOWN.

HERE ARE THE CAMPS FOR 2013:

Disney's Cinderella KIDS-Two Sessions!
Ages 4-8

The timeless fairy tale meets the magic of Disney in this adaptation of the treasured animated film. Poor Cinderella is endlessly mistreated by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, and denied a chance to go to the Royal Ball. With a little help from her mice friends, and a lot of help from her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella goes to the ball, meets the Prince, and falls in love!

DATES/TIMES:
Session 1: June 10-22, Monday-Friday 9.a.m.-12:30pm.
Session 2: July 8-20, Monday-Friday 9.a.m.-12:30pm.
SHOWS:
Session 1: June 21 at 7pm and June 22 at 2pm and 7pm
Session 2: July 19 at 7pm and July 20 at 2pm and 7pm.
(Parents receive 2 comp tickets, additional tickets are $10 each)
LOCATION: Carrollton United Methodist Church, 921 S. Carrollton Ave, New Orleans, LA 70118

TUITION: $300
ADDITIONAL FEES: Parents are responsible for providing costumes and make-up

Before & After Care available ($75/week):
8:30am - 9am & 1pm - 5:30pm
** Please note, there is a 15 student minimum enrollment for class to go forward. Your payment will be processed only when that minimum enrollment number is met.

Guys and Dolls, Jr
AGES: 9-12

Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, GUYS AND DOLLS JR. introduces us to colorful characters who have become legends in the musical theatre canon: Sarah Brown, the up­right but uptight "mission doll,"; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, a nightclub performer whose chronic flu is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for is infamous floating dice game.
DATES/TIMES: June 3-15, Monday-Friday 9.a.m.- 1 p.m.
SHOWS: Friday June 14, 7 p.m. & Saturday June 15, 2 p.m. & 7 p.m.

Once On This Island, Jr
Ages 13-18

With its poignant story and catchy Caribbean flavored score, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND JR. is a feast for the heart, mind, and soul. The highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale The Little Mermaid garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.

In almost non-stop song and dance, the show tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice and hatred.

SHOWS: Friday July 5, 7 p.m. & Saturday July 6, 2 p.m. & 7 p.m.
